“Church in the City”, along with “Somebody Cares, Denver “is spearheading a great series of events this year and we are hoping to build a great collaboration of churches in our cities to be a part of it. It is called the “C.I.A. Blitz”. C.I.A. stands for “Church In Action” and “blitz” means “to bombard, saturate, target, attack”. CIA will truly be THE Church IN ACTION to advance the kingdom of God. This will be a collaborative effort of every and all Bible believing churches who are willing to go out into communities in the inner city and needy communities of Denver, (North, South, East, West) to preach the gospel through evangelistic outreaches from our mobile stage through music, dance, preaching, testimonies, drama, etc. etc. We also hope to do a lot with kids using drama, dance, puppets, etc. Our experience, as with all missions/outreach, is that if you target children you will draw their parents as well.
We are planning to give out care packages with food, toiletries, and household cleansers (that cannot be purchased with the welfare food debit card). And of course, we will have a huge BBQ each time, and have school supplies and clothing (new and gently used) for folks to take as needed. Basically, a huge Block Party but done in local parks but with as many volunteers as possible prepared to witness and to pray for folks in the parks and surrounding neighborhoods.
C.I.A. is not about any specific church per se, in fact, no churches will be promoted at any of the outreaches except those within the proximity of each outreach, where those who are newly saved will be encouraged to attend. Truly it will be about the kingdom of God and the Body of Christ reaching out to the lost throughout our city and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. This year we will target some needy communities in Denver, and next year we hope to expand that to include suburban communities as well.
Our dates and locations scheduled for this year are:
- Cinco de Mayo weekend- Saturday, May 3rd at Lincoln Park
- Juneteenth weekend- Saturday, June 14th at Curtis Park
- 4th of July—Friday, July 4th at Sloan’s Lake
- Labor Day weekend- Saturday, September 6th at Harvey Park
We cannot do this alone and we are believing with the stirring of the Holy Spirit and the obedience to God’s call, we hope to rally churches throughout Denver and the suburbs to participate as often and with as many people as they can.
There are ministry opportunities in every area, from ministry on the platform in music, dance, choirs, testimonials, preaching, drama, etc. to ministry to children—Bible stories, drama, dance, puppets, face-painting, games, etc. We will need folks to cook, hand out care packages, clothing, set-up, clean-up, and those who can set up and run a sound system and stage. And we will need those who will witness in the streets and pray for folks.
We also need help to gather the supplies needed for the cookout as well as those needed for the care packages, clothing, and school supplies.
We have already done much of the ground work by getting the necessary permits for the parks from the city. We are actively contacting the churches in these needy areas to get them on board. We will also be contacting some other suburban, and inner- city churches and to ask them to participate by recruiting volunteers for one or several ministry opportunities/needs and/or for supplies. We also have a graphic artist who is generating the tools of communications via fliers and posters that will be used to communicate with and in churches, and a version to canvass the areas of each event in which all the churches participating will be represented. We also hope to get favor with local media and Christian Radio and TV stations to help promote the events.
It is a huge endeavor, but we are trusting that the Lord will raise up laborers in our own cities, and as it is written in Acts 11:21 “The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord”.
